Inspired by Taylor Swift and Cate Blanchett at the Golden Globes this year, we decided to pay Dry Parlour a visit – Kuala Lumpur’s first-ever blow-dry bar (what’s that, you ask? click here). Here, Chief Blower, Ming Wong, took six inches off Zoé’s hair and re-fashioned her look with a messy-but-chic faux bob. Ladies, we were absolutely blown away to discover how simple it was to get the look, and in just five simple steps. Try it out; be prepared for an onslaught of head-turning compliments.
Things you’ll need:
+ hair clips
+ bobby pins (about 10 will do)
+ a curling wand
+ hair spray
+ a hair brush
Step 1: Start with a straight head of hair as your base. Separate the front two sections of hair (from the front to the area that covers your ears), pin the rest of hair back, and start curling hair outwards, away from the barrel.
It’s major important to curl outwards – this technique will create lift and volume, and at the last stage, will eventually frame the face the same way a bob would. Anyway, you should be left with a head of something like this:
Step 2: Give the remaining section of hair a light spritz of hair spray, then start braiding it.
Step 3: When done, start rolling and tucking the braid in. Secure with about six bobby pins (pin the sides, securing the last in the centre of the nape). Set with another spritz of hairspray.
Step 4: Brush the curls out. For more volume, back comb it a bit.
Step 5: Take the longest layers of hair, and pin it at the nape. Loosen and tousle any imperfections, and set it for good with another spritz of hairspray.
Well, there you have it. You’ve just taken off about six inches of hair, without cutting away your length. It’s fabulous faux bob o’clock – time for heads to turn and compliments to be received!
