As we cling urgently to our Summer brights, the Fall season beckons, and with it, accompanying beauty looks that are pared down yet visually dramatic. Fall beauty trends are a cyclical affair, with deep hues on eyes and lips being a perennial feature. This year is no different, with deep neo-gothic undertones overtaking the OTT neon of the past season.
Muted Brights
This doesn’t mean bright colours are out of the picture. They’re still around, but in deeper, jewel-toned iterations. They’re also more complex from being infused with lots of chunky shimmer, glitter and iridescence, resulting in all of us getting to start the end-of-year festivities months ahead … At least on our eyelids!

Luminous Skin

Whether paired with an inky flick of eyeliner or heavy brows, Fall runways had the models’ faces always kept clean, polished and ultimately, luminous with a glow from within (or primer underneath). Red, red, red!

Truly, red lips can do no wrong, and there’s a shade for everyone! Amp it up in bright orange-red or keep it classic with brick and wine shades. Wear it day to night, matte or glossy.

Bold Eyes
The classic Fall smokey eye is elevated through colour and metallic sheen. Layer iridescent shades over dark cream shadow from a pot or shadow stick, and blend them in to create a deep rainbow effect. Cream shadow with duochrome shimmer works well on its own too. Create an ombré eye by starting off with full opacity on the upper lashline and sheer it out by blending outwards.

Bright Eyes

But Fall eyes don’t always have to be heavy, and many of this year’s runway looks are a testament to that. Light and bright lids speak volumes in their simplicity, and are just as easy to achieve with pencil liners, smudged in. Optional soft highlights accentuate the look.

Graphic Brows

Filled in, exaggerated brows frame the face and draw attention to the eyes. To achieve this, fill in sparse spots on groomed brows with a super-fine tipped eyebrow pencil and add plushness with powder. Set the whole look in gel or eyebrow mascara.

Dynamic Gothic Lips
Make like Lisbeth Salander and paint your lips with deep, dramatic colour on an otherwise clean face. Frame the sides with an even darker liner, or add volume with a bright pop shade in the middle. In any case, this is not your garden-variety mall goth look, so remember to use a lip brush for precision and polish.
